Property/Annexation Issues

Three bills on annexation HB 2032, HB 2029, and HB 2084 are currently being debated. HB 2029 would revise several annexation statutes by doing the following:
  • Require a city proposing to annex land unilaterally to submit a copy of the city’s plan, dealing with extending services to the area concerned, to the board of county commissioners at least 10 days prior to the required public hearing on the proposed annexation.

  • Modify current law to reduce the total time that must elapse before there is a review of the new municipal services. After a review, if the services are not being provided as stated then de-annexation proceedings may begin.
In the past I have supported restrictions on eminent domain and unilateral annexation. I will carefully review the final language of each bill and report new developments regarding this legislation in my e-newsletter. Please share your thoughts with me here, and I will get back to you.
