Rep. Donohoe named to 2009 Pro-Business Honor Roll
In July 2009, Rep. Owen Donohoe of the 39th District in Kansas was named to the 2009 Pro-Business Honor Roll. This Kansas Chamber of Commerce award recognizes legislators who consistently worked to strengthen our state’s economy by promoting sound business policy in their legislative work and in their home communities. According to the Chamber, these legislators “recognize the necessity of a strong business climate to help the state’s economy recover and flourish.”
Rep. Donohoe was honored by the award. “As you know, I believe that businesses and individuals are the best creators of jobs and positive economic impact in the 39th District and throughout Kansas. I’ll continue to support initiatives that spur business and job growth in our state in the next legislative session.”
Rep. Donohoe’s priorities of championing taxpayer interests with sound fiscal policy, responsible budgeting practices, and prudent economic development have served him well on his legislative committee assignments (House Appropriations, Budget & Economic Development).
The Chamber cited Rep. Donohoe’s key votes on core business issues such as the omnibus and mega appropriations bills, tax policy, energy, environment and regulatory affairs, business development, and campaign finance.
Rep. Donohoe has been honored with other awards for his work in the legislature, including the Champion of the Taxpayer award and the Pro-Jobs Legislator award.
Advocate for small business and reducing debt and taxes
Rep. Donohoe has worked diligently to improve the business climate in Kansas. Under Gov. Sebelius, Kansas racked up a staggering debt of nearly $4 billion and government jobs outpaced private-sector job growth significantly. Kansas lags behind most other states in private-sector job growth primarily because of high taxes and regulations on small businesses. Since election to his first term in 2006, Rep. Donohoe has been working hard to reduce these burdens and put the small business economic engine back on track to create jobs, revenue and stability in our communities.
Promoting a strong business climate and preventing additional costs for employers will grows jobs in Kansas and speed our state’s economic recovery. In the next legislative session, Rep. Donohoe will continue to move this agenda through the statehouse, achieving better economic policies for Kansas.
